The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is excited to announce a cluster hiring initiative in support of Synergies for Sustainability Solutions, advancing research in Sustainable Design, Environmental Planning, Social and Cultural Sustainability, and Environmental Economics. This initiative seeks to enhance UTA’s expertise by developing innovative, interdisciplinary solutions to global environmental challenges.

This cluster aims to foster a collaborative and multidisciplinary research initiative investigating sustainability solutions and their environmental, economic, and social contexts correlated to spatial and cultural factors. This initiative aligns with UTA’s strategic research priorities in Sustainability & Resilience and Data-Driven Discovery.

We invite applications from candidates with expertise in sustainable infrastructure, resilient planning & policy, humanistic geography, ecological design, building information modeling, life cycle assessment, circular economy, and environmental accounting, relating these topics to human factors and societal challenges.

Ideal candidates will advance learning and knowledge through research, teaching, service, and commercialization in disciplines in our College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs, College of Business, and College of Liberal Arts.

The new faculty hires will bridge disciplines across the college/school and their departments, stimulating innovative research and teaching efforts. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprising individuals with various backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We seek candidates with funded research programs who can produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline. A strong promise of extramural grant funding will also be considered for Assistant Professor applicants. New faculty will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from various backgrounds and experiences.

The appointments are expected to commence September 1, 2025, for the start of the Fall 2025 semester. The highest consideration will be given to applicants with a demonstrated record of interdisciplinary research, scholarly achievements, peer-reviewed creative work, and excellence with a clear potential to develop a well-funded research program.

College of Business: The Sustainability Cluster and College of Business at UTA seeks applicants for a faculty position in all areas of economics, with a strong focus on environmental economics and its related domains, such as climate change economics, energy economics, natural resource management, and the circular economy. Ideal candidates will join a cluster of interdisciplinary scholars to conduct interdisciplinary research on the economic impacts of environmental regulation, sustainable practices, and the valuation of ecosystem services while also engaging in collaborative efforts with fields such as environmental science and public policy. Applicants should demonstrate a strong record of scholarly achievements and the potential to develop a well-funded research program. Successful candidates will also contribute to teaching and mentoring students, helping shape future leaders in environmental economics. College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs: The Sustainability Cluster and the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs seeks applicants for a faculty position in all areas of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, urban planning, and public affairs will be considered, with a particular focus on sustainability in the built environment. Ideal candidates demonstrate interdisciplinary research in the scope of climate resilience, environmental planning, ecological design, building performance, or circular economy in the built environment in one or several fields within the college. Applicants should demonstrate a strong record of scholarly achievements in sustainability-related research/creative work and show potential to develop a well-funded, interdisciplinary research program. Successful candidates will also contribute to teaching and mentoring students, fostering the next generation of leaders in sustainable design, climate resilience, and environmental planning. College of Liberal Arts: All areas of Liberal Arts will be considered, including humanities, social sciences, and fine and performing arts. We are particularly interested in applicants building a strong research record on environmental/sustainability issues and humanistic geographies; social, cultural, and discursive contexts; and social scientific data collection. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong potential for working in interdisciplinary teams on research projects, grant writing, and working with students of different majors on the humanistic or social scientific dimensions of sustainability. Job Summary

We are seeking candidates with expertise in Sustainable Design, Environmental Planning, Social and Cultural Sustainability, and Environmental Economics, as broadly described above, focusing on research that includes life cycle assessment, sustainable urban infrastructure, building information modeling (BIM), and circular economy strategies. Additional areas of interest include sustainable technologies, climate resilience, humanistic geographies of and social scientific data on sustainable technology, planning and design, and the integration of environmental economics.
