Position Description and Responsibilities

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University’s second largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education, and outreach. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: We believe that achieving next-generation scientific breakthroughs requires an understanding of the world’s complex, interlocking systems. We believe that access to nutritious food and a healthy environment is a fundamental human right. We believe that ensuring a prosperous global future depends on the ability to support local people and communities everywhere. By working in and across multiple scientific areas, CALS can address challenges and opportunities of the greatest relevance, here in New York, across the nation, and around the world.

Over its 115-year history, Cornell’s Department of Landscape Architecture has achieved national recognition for its excellence in innovative teaching pedagogies that challenge students to become responsible, engaged and creative designers. Our department is adapting to meet the critical issues affecting the planet and its inhabitants through a continued emphasis on the agency of design.

The Department of Landscape Architecture at Cornell University seeks applications for a part-time studio instructor position for a mid- to upper-level undergraduate studio to begin August 1, 2024. This position requires the candidate to have teaching and/or professional practice experience in high quality contemporary design and the ability to teach design studios grounded in the historical and theoretical foundations of the field. This studio will contribute to a curriculum that aims to prepare skilled and critical practitioners and researchers and expand the role of landscape architecture in addressing pressing anthropogenic and environmental issues.
